02Which grade do you need?

Match the family to your application

A quick overview of each bitumen family — what it is, its typical grades and where it is used. Follow a row through to full specifications, certificates and pricing.

Penetration grade bitumen

Refinery bitumen graded by penetration depth at 25°C. Typical grades 40/50, 60/70 and 80/100 — the primary binder for road paving and hot-mix asphalt.
Penetration grades & specs

Cutback bitumen

Bitumen blended with a petroleum solvent so it flows cold. Rapid (RC), medium (MC) and slow (SC) curing grades for prime coats, tack coats and surface dressing.
Cutback grades & specs

Oxidized bitumen

Air-blown bitumen with a high softening point and low penetration. Grades such as 85/25 and 115/15 for roofing felts, waterproofing membranes and pipe coating.
Oxidized grades & specs

Bitumen by viscosity

Binder classified by absolute viscosity (VG-10 to VG-40) for performance-based mix design. VG-30 broadly corresponds to a 60/70 penetration grade.

03Packaging & logistics

Every grade, in the format your port handles

Whichever family you buy, Bitumax ships in the packaging your project and destination require — with certificates of analysis and full export documentation on every shipment.

Bulk tankers & bitutainers

Hot bulk transport for large asphalt plants and paving projects — the most cost-effective option where hot-handling infrastructure is available.

New steel drums

New steel drums (around 150–180 kg net) for containerised shipment and more manageable quantities to any port.

Jumbo bags (FIBC)

Flexible Intermediate Bulk Containers for easy handling where bulk infrastructure is limited — ideal for oxidized and hard grades.

04Specs & standards

Tested to international standards

Across every family, Bitumax bitumen is produced and certified against the specifications your engineers, consultants and tender documents require.

EN 12591

European paving grade

The European specification for penetration-graded paving bitumen, including 50/70 and 70/100.

ASTM D946

US penetration grading

American specification covering 40–50, 60–70 and 85–100 penetration grades for paving.

ASTM D2028

Cutback bitumen

Specification for rapid-curing (RC) cutback asphalt used in prime and tack coats.

IS 73 / IS 1201

Viscosity & Indian standard

Indian standards for viscosity-graded paving bitumen (VG-10 to VG-40) and bitumen testing.

06In depth

A complete guide to the Bitumax bitumen range

Choosing between the four bitumen families

Bitumax supplies four distinct bitumen families, each engineered for a different job. Penetration grade bitumen — from 60/70 to 80/100 — is the workhorse binder of road construction and hot-mix asphalt. Viscosity grade bitumen (VG-30 and VG-40) applies the same paving job through a performance-based grading system. Cutback bitumen is fluxed with solvent for cold-applied prime and tack coats, while oxidized bitumen (85/25, 115/15) is the right family for roofing, waterproofing and industrial applications.

Grades, specifications and quality

Every grade in the range is sourced from reputable refineries and backed by a certificate of analysis confirming penetration, softening point, viscosity, ductility and flash point as relevant. Grades are produced and tested to international standards including EN 12591, ASTM D946, ASTM D2028 and IS 73, so the binder you receive matches the specification named in your tender or mix design. Not sure which grade to specify? Our technical team maps your climate, traffic and application to the correct grade across families — a hard 60/70 or VG-40 for hot, heavily trafficked corridors, or a softer 80/100 for cold regions.
