Buying bitumen globally
Bitumen is one of the most widely traded construction commodities in the world, yet knowing exactly where to buy bitumen — and from whom — makes the difference between a smooth project and a stalled one. Bitumax supplies bitumen directly to buyers in more than 80 markets, from Gulf load ports to terminals across South and South-East Asia, East Asia, the CIS and Central Asia, Europe, Africa and Latin America. Whether you are an EPC contractor tendering a highway, a distributor stocking a regional depot, or a manufacturer feeding a plant, you are buying from a single accountable source rather than an anonymous chain of intermediaries.
Our where-to-buy directory lists every market we serve, with a dedicated page for each country covering the grades held locally, packaging, Incoterms and typical lead times. Start there, or simply send your requirement and we will point you to the right lane.
Buying bitumen by region
Demand and specification vary by region, and so does the way bitumen moves. In the GCC and wider Middle East we ship from established Gulf load ports on short sailings. Across South and South-East Asia — India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Vietnam, Indonesia, Malaysia and their neighbours — high paving demand is met with penetration grades in bulk and drums. East Asia, the CIS and Central Asia, Europe, Africa and Latin America each have their own port infrastructure and documentary requirements, all of which we handle. Choosing a supplier who already runs vessels and containers into your region means fewer surprises at the terminal and at customs.
Buying bitumen by grade
The right grade is dictated by climate, traffic loading and application. Penetration grade bitumen such as 60/70 and 80/100 is the workhorse of hot-mix asphalt. Cutback bitumen in MC and RC forms is used for priming and surface dressing. Oxidized (blown) bitumen such as 85/25 and 90/15 serves roofing, waterproofing and industrial uses. Where a project specifies performance by flow, viscosity-graded bitumen is matched to the required VG number. If your specification falls outside these families, send it over — non-standard grades can be produced to order.
FOB, CIF and choosing your Incoterms
Two Incoterms cover most bitumen trade. Under FOB you buy at the load port and arrange your own ocean freight and marine insurance — useful if you already work with a forwarder. Under CIF you receive a single landed price with the vessel and insurance arranged for you, which simplifies budgeting and risk. CFR is available where insurance is arranged separately. Our logistics and shipping team quotes both so you can compare the true delivered cost, and our buying process walks you through each step from enquiry to arrival.
Packaging, quality and inspection
Bitumen is only as good as the way it arrives. We ship in bulk heated tankers and bitutainers, in flexitanks, and in containerised new steel drums or jumbo bags, each marked and palletised to match your handling and customs needs. Quality is protected end to end: every lot can be inspected at the load port by SGS, Intertek or a surveyor of your choice, and each shipment carries a manufacturer's certificate reporting penetration, softening point, ductility, flash point and solubility against the ordered specification. Where authenticity matters, our product authentication process gives you traceability from refinery to receipt.
